Frequently Asked Question

Yes, a gyro stabilizer can be added to your boat for most situation. However, several factors need to be considered before installation:

  1. Adequate Space: The location is flexible, and it doesn’t matter if the stabilizer is placed above or below deck, on- or off-centerline, as long as there is enough space for both the stabilizer and routine service. Just make sure the stabilizer must be affixed directly to the vessel’s structure.

  1. Boat Structure: The structure where the stabilizer will be mounted must be strong enough to handle the forces exerted by the stabilizer. Structural modifications may be necessary depending on your boat’s existing design.
In most situation, If your boat can withstand the forces of the ocean, it can handle a boat stabilizer. Just need to reinforce the structure supporting the boat stabilizer when necessary.

  1. Electrical Capacity: Ensure your boat’s electrical system can support the stabilizer’s power requirements.
For AC models, it should be determined whether the existing generator has sufficient capacity to support the power consumption. For DC models the need for additional battery capacity should also be evaluated.

  1. Weight Study: A weight study might be conducted to assess the impact of the stabilizer’s weight on your boat’s performance. This includes evaluating heel, trim, and overall balance during a sea trial.

Multiple units can be used if necessary to achieve the desired stabilization, particularly if a single unit cannot be optimally installed.

The boat stabilizer can be installed in various locations onboard, depending on the available space. Common installation spots include the bilge, center console, engine room, or crew quarters. For boats 23-40 ft, options like the bilge space, leaning post, and engine room are typical. For larger boats over 40 ft, the stabilizer can be installed in the engine room, lazarette, cockpit, crew quarters, accommodation space, or tender garage.

The location is flexible, and it doesn’t matter if the stabilizer is placed above or below deck, on- or off-centerline, as long as there is adequate space. The stabilizer must be affixed directly to the vessel’s structure, ensuring effective elimination of boat roll regardless of the installation location. Multiple units can be installed if necessary to achieve the required gyroscopic power.
